How do I pick which camera I want my computer to use? (Dual Camera Device)

ProctorFree is currently unable to provide official support for dual camera devices. Below are some troubleshooting steps that users may attempt when utilizing these devices however these do not guarantee compatibility with ProctorFree.

Known issues
  • Users are unable to choose the front facing camera on their device for use with ProctorFree.
  • Some devices include automated lighting adjustments made by the camera preventing the camera from meeting ProctorFree's minimum lighting requirements.
  • In the event that users complete these troubleshooting steps and are able to successfully utilize ProctorFree similar steps will be required for future use of ProctorFree.
  • ProctorFree recommends disabling both the front and rear camera and utilizing an external USB camera in situations where the front facing or both cameras are unable to meet ProctorFree's minimum lighting requirements due to automatic lighting adjustments.

Before Completing the System Compatibility Check
When completing the System Compatibility Check both the front and rear camera must be enabled in the device manager. If you have previously utilized ProctorFree you will need to follow the steps below prior to attempting the System Compatibility Check again.
  • Click on the Windows Start button in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
  • Search for "Device Manager" and launch the application
  • Your camera(s) may be listed under the "Imaging devices" or "System devices" categories
  • Once you've located your camera(s) ensure they are both enabled by right-clicking on them and selecting "Enable" from the available list
    • If only "Disable" is present in the list, the device(s) are already enabled
  • After enabling the device(s) you may need to reboot your computer for the changes to take effect

  • Once you've located your camera(s) disable the non-utilized camera(s) by right-clicking and selecting "Disable" from the available list
    • It is not required that you reboot your computer once performing this step
  • After disabling the camera(s) continue to the Profile Creation or Authentication step and the system should now default to the remaining choice of camera
